Orange is a fruit. Not a skin colour.
I know I am always saying 'This self tanner is the best' or 'This gradual tanner is the best' or 'My back hurts when I wear that fricken strapless bra' but when I was asked at a Hen's the other night (if anyone was unsure of how to get spectacularly drunk, I think I may have figured it out) 'Which is the best self tan?,' which is one of the questions I am asked most, the fact that I did not even think twice tells me I may have finally figured out the self tanner I believe to be the best. (At this point in time anyway... maybe we have a new answer next week.)
It's Ella Bache Great Tan Without Sun!
*Applause*
It goes on a lovely natural looking brown, (so you have this lovely, genuine-y colour immediately) dries a lovely natural looking brown and the closest you'll get to orange with this stuff is if you decide to eat some paw paw as you wait for it to dry.
It sucks a bit to get it off your hands, cause it's REAL thick, but I just use my body scrub, or face scrub, or something scrub-esque the second I finish applying and that seems to work.
The scent is minimal (Hang on, is there even one? I DON'T BELIEVE
THERE IS! Well, I can't remember noticing it after all these years) and
the stickiness is also minimal, although I wouldn't be leaping into
your 600 thread count Egyptian cottons with a layer of this gear on, no
siree Bob, or Ella, as is the case in this instance, because it will,
of course, ruin them, and in this disgusting mugginess, probably make
your already hard-to-sleep-in-this-weather-issues, worse. Do it about
an hour before bed, is the key, fruits.
And now, a shitty low res picture!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!

fruits -- try Tanblocker from Ella Bache, if used within 30 minutes of application - it neutralises all the colour, so you won't have any nasty problems...i use it on my hands all the time.
its like an exfoliating scrub and makes self tanning so easy! otherwise, i think modelco does it too and so does st.tropez...

ahh how i know it is summer when the fake tan is being discussed!
For the blotchy patches on knees and ankles i would reccommend putting some light moisturiser on these bits before you start the tan will still adhere(lightly) creatin natural unblotchiness, also good for elbows!

Have to say I have been using the Bache tan for years and loved it always, I bought a can of the spray tan they make and I can't say that I loved loved loved it like the rub on one. Although in saying that i did get lots of positive comments re the colour. It is just the overspray with the tan in a can I hate..I do spray tanning and I have to say that to be honest I am over it! I actually think you can get a more natural, even cover with the creams/gels than the spray.Really it just takes a bit longer, thats all.

As far as I know you can only buy Ella Bache products from their own stores (there are loads in Sydney, just jump on their main website and search for locations) or from some (not all) David Jones' (I know DJ's Bondi Junction has a 'stall').

is there anyway to apply fake tan on your back (without enlisting the help of a friend)?
Posted by: chocopie | December 05, 2007 at 10:01 PM
Rosie - don't be scared! It will only take several blotchy and patchy attempts to get it right.. :)
I think the best tip is to get just the 'right' amount of product, the rest really depends on how you smooth it on.
One thing's for sure when it comes to fake tan: practice makes perfect (or very close to perfect anyway).

hey angie i live on the central coast but i'm pretty sure you could find most of the products recommended on this blog at a david jones or myer, and if not then a chemist or beauticians... hope that helps you a tad...
p.s i'm so buying that fake tan cuz i'm a bit pasty and don't want to get skin cancer so it sounds good!

I live in Sydney and... all these products you recomend, I have no idea where to find!
Could you point me in the right direction to the whereabouts of the fake tan?
Because, yes I am using a fake tan that makes me look orange :(, and, no I don't like it.

Fruits - any tips for getting the fake tan right on the legs? I always seem to have blotches around the knees & ankles...not cool.

I only lost my fake tan virginity recently and I must say I am converted! I am now in the market for a good self tanner so I don't have to keep going and getting spray tans so thanks for the rec Fruity!
Can you just pick this up at any Ella Bache salons? I don't have a DJs or anything like that where I live. Thanks!

YAY!!!! im so glad you recommended this one Fruity as this is the only fake tan i have ever used (been using it for about 6 years!) and i looooove it!!!! the "getting-it-off-your-hands" thing can be a prob and i know this is DEFINITELY not a skin-friendly option, but sometimes i quickly rub some washing powder in my hands with the water running, and it seems to come off straight away.....i follow this with shiteloads of moisturiser......
thanks again Fruity - i knew this stuff was amazing and im glad to hear that someone who has tried and tested many a tanner agrees!!!
xx

Charlotte self tan will always come off somewhat when you shave your legs as when you shave it removes skin cells, this is the layer that the self-tan has developed on(it cant penetrate below this layer). Maybe try waxing or epilating your legs so you dont need to shave....?

Rosie, have to say I agree with you on that one... A chemical that you put on your skin that changes the colour. I hate that our generation is becoming the guinea pigs for so many of these new products. In 20 years time will be interesting to see if there are really no side effects from it all. I'm watching all those botoxed people with great interest anyway....

I agree! This fake tan is one of the very few I've used and I always recommend it : )
Posted by: Celeste | December 05, 2007 at 09:06 AM
No Amanda, you are not alone - I have never used fake tan either. But that's cause it scares me........
Posted by: Rosie | December 04, 2007 at 10:13 PM
I must be the only woman left on the planet who has never fake tanned! I tan very easily & get brown arms & legs just from pegging the clothes on the line.
Posted by: Amanda | December 04, 2007 at 09:33 PM
i'll have to try it as well. I've been looking for one that doesn't go orange and disappear after, like, ONE DAY. Or come off when you shave your legs, even though you exfoliated before applying it. Oh i could go on and on!
Posted by: Charlotte | December 04, 2007 at 09:16 PM
will have to try it out - thank fruit!
